If you want him to be taken to task for his actions, don't use "but he has PTSD!" as a defense when he's actually being called out on his shit.

I forgot to add "in universe" (although I added it in some other answer)

BEcause unless you ARE in the MCU universe and are somehow contacting this reality through the internet, then you are not someone who can take Tony to task for his actions.

I want to see the consequences on his life for creating Ultron (in his own movie. Or Avengers. Not in the Captain America movie). I want to see how his relationship with Pepper went on (or was destroyed) after Iron Man 3. I really want to see how is he coping now that Jarvis is Vision and thus no longer 24/7 around him. And more importantly, I want to see the day when he realizes he has to step down from being Iron Man and get some Therapy (And if said Therapy comes with the introduction of Dr. Samson to the MCU, I will be GLAD)

But I am tired of the "Tony is the worst evil in the MCU" meme that has been permeating the fandom since Age of Ultron because it always seems to me as if people are completely ignoring Tony's storyarc just to think the worst of him.

Unfortunately, you've just admitted he doesn't have much of a storyarc beyond "screwing up epically and never having to answer for it." And you're blaming people for hating his character because he's been an unrepentant douchebag and telling them to go easy on him Because PTSD? Do you see the problem, here?

You do see the problem with people wanting what is essentially an armed bomb that could go off at any time free because he's the Captain's best friend?

Because I might adore Bucky, but I can see he is a danger as long as someone could get their hands on those handy trigger words. And yet, everyone acts as if putting him on cryo was a crime.

I am tired of hating non-villianous characters for the sake of hate. I am tired of bashing fans of said non-villanous characters for being fans. And I am even MORE tired of people not considering all the narrative implications of what we're being shown.

Yes, Tony's arc is "starts with the best intentions (something you forgot to add), screws up royally and then acts as if the consequences didn't matter as long as he can try and fix the problem he caused". And I do think that people should take his PTSD in context especially if they want to take everyone else's problems in context.

I know Tony is easy to hate. Compared to all the others, the only one who has more privilege is Thor, being the heir of Aasgard and an immortal God. But hating Thor is like hating a basket of puppies, so no one will ever call upon the fact that Thor IS a privileged jock. So , hey, let's hate the rich guy and pretend he has no problems.

And as I said in a different answer: Call him selfish, call him selfcentered, call him privileged and ignorant... but don't call him evil, psychopatic or similar loaded words just to prove that morally you are better than his fans.

Yes, I do. While I found the end of Civil War gutwrenching, what makes it work so well is that it's the thing that has to be done. What I meant was "do you see the problem with getting mad at people for ignoring the storyarc you just admitted isn't really there?"

I am tired of hating non-villianous characters for the sake of hate. I am tired of bashing fans of said non-villanous characters for being fans. And I am even MORE tired of people not considering all the narrative implications of what we're being shown.

And I'm tired of people using mental illness as a reason you can't hate a character ever and must give them a pass for all the horrible shit they do.

Sigh.

I was going to stop answering, since you obviously want to have the last word and I don't care enough to keep on going, but...

I am not saying you CAN'T hate Tony because he has PTSD.

I am saying you CAN'T say he is a narcissitic psychopath and a monster BECAUSE he has PTSD.

Hate him because he is irritating, self centered and selfish. Hate him because you dislike RDJ. HAte him because you hate him. Hell, hate him because you dislike armored heroes for all I care.

Just don't call him a Psychopath. Or a Narcissitic person. Or claim he is more evil than Loki, Red Skull, Thanos and Zemo. THAT is what I am objecting to.

Which I have not said, at all.

If I have, point out where. I'll wait.

I think Doc Samson's already appeared in the MCU...but then again, I think that was back in the Hulk movie and the MCU's not exactly big on incorporating its characters into ongoing events.
