The fight lasted less than 10 minutes. And his "friend" had just told him that he KNEW that the man he had been protecting had killed his parents (one of whom, btw, had practically ignored Tony all his life to keep the Captain AMerica legacy going on).

I REALLY wonder who wouldn't have lashed for at least an hour under those circumpstances.

(I am going to bet that if it had been any other Avenger, up and including Hulk, we wouldn't be having this "but it wasn't momentarily" argument)

The insanity defense does not work the way you think it does. It depends someone not knowing what they're doing (Tony does) and not knowing it's wrong (which Tony also knows).

I don't consider any degree of justified anger and grief to be an excuse for attempted murder. Tony's anger may be understandable, but that does not make him any less in the wrong here, and it doesn't make him any less responsible for his own actions.
