Eehhh, for me, I always tended to automatically adapt to the accent the person teaching me is speaking. So whenever I had a more American accent type of teacher in school, it would morph into a more American accent while later on, I had a very "Queen's English" kind of teacher, so that's what my accent morphed into as well after a while. So in a way, it might have sounded like what you described to other people, but it wasn't.
(I do get what you mean though - my father is a huge Scotland fan and he tries to fake a Scottish accent when speaking English - and this, together with the fact that his English isn't really good is pretty embarassing to listen to.)

It was super hilarious in a Japanese class though: A student had been to the Kansai region for a while and when she came back to class, her accent had definitely changed in that direction and the teacher was absolutely horrified because the student was a super sweet girl and came back talking like a punk.

You're not who I'm talking about then :) I've known people who just come across as tryhard showoffs for trying to make it sound like they speak a foreign accent super well and then go over the top about it. If it comes naturally, then good for you, honestly.

I think I know what you mean - I'm just super self-conscious and always worry that people might think I'm one of the super pretentious folks who do this kind of thing X'D
