Except that we're never going to see a conclusion to the book series. GRRM said there will maybe be two more books in the series, but judging by how much plot he still has to cover, the abominably slow pacing of the last couple books, and adding YET MORE plot threads to an already bloated story... With everything he has yet to cover I'd wager it would take at least 3 or 4 more books to wrap everything up. Now consider that it takes this guy about 6 years to publish a new book in the series. Well, GRRM ain't getting any younger.

But the real icing on the cake... GRRM said he won't have anyone finish the series if he dies early. I gave up on the series when I heard that. Whats the point of investing myself in an ending that will never come?

I haven't been hugely invested in the books since ASOS, so it won't be heartbreaking for me to be left hanging. And something feels tacky to me about such a defeatist mentality related to someone else's longevity on such a selfish basis, but you do you, I guess.
