Re: So... Is Becky a sexist slur?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-28 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a name commonly given to those of the female gender. Anyone who thinks it means anything beyond that is stupid and their opinion should be disregarded.

Yeah, but the idea is that it's being used to describe slutty white girls who sleep with married men.

Most likely none, besides the one that was manufactured fresh for this thread. It appears to be failing to launch

Some people are complaining about being called "Becky" (after Becky with the good hair). Apparently simply not liking it makes it a slur. Apparently because it's directed towards women exclusively this makes it sexist.

That all makes sense to me. Why would that not be true?

It's about as sexist as "Mansplaining"

Re: So... Is Becky a sexist slur?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-28 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)

a reference to a song does not a slur make

Re: So... Is Becky a sexist slur?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-28 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
No. "Becky" is a slang term meaning white female, as people with that name are most likely to be white females. There are no sexist implications to it. It's similar to black females being referred to as "Shaniquas", although the racial context in the latter case is uglier because of the (relatively low) status given to black women by society, and the notion that the names (like Shaniqua) they give themselves are inferior to "white" names (like Rebecca).

.... Am I really the only person on this comm who knows that "Becky" is slang for "blow job"?

Re: So... Is Becky a sexist slur?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-28 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
becky can mean either getting a blowjob or becky from baby got back

both are correct

no

it's a stereotype, not a slur

If you want to stop it being used as an insult, you'll have better luck if you claim it's an antisemitic slur, Rebecca being one of the most popular traditional Jewish names for girls.
