If that was the case why would geeks and nerds find it funny? Half the cast IS a geek or a nerd (Mayim Biyalik for one and yes I know I misspelled that).

Yes. As a geek and a nerd, I find it hysterical.

So do many of my geeky nerdy friends because we all see ourselves as the characters, male and female, at any given point in time.

My old aunt loves the show, and she's an oooooold school gamer geek. (Also a lit geek, but she and my mom used to shotgun the Myst games and try and beat them in one all-nighter.)
