Are you saying that all historical context is irrelevant when appraising art? That's one of the dumber things ive heard on the internet this week

The fuck does that have to do with anything?

If anything, shows like MASH should be derided for using them since they not only weren't filmed in a studio, they also added laughter where no one in their right mind would laugh. At least BBT has laughter at things that are at least mildly amusing rather than massively serious situations.

Just to clarify, the producers of M*A*S*H didn't want a laugh track put on the show. They fought the studio heads and came to an agreement that they would use the laugh track except for any scenes in the OR (even if there were jokes). The DVDs were released with the option to keep the laugh track on or turn it off while viewing. I never watch it with the laughs because it doesn't need it. But the creators knew that. The studio heads didn't.
