Can't agree with you there. It was created to describe a particular kind of talk from men, in which men presume to speak with an authority they simply don't have about women's lived experience. And in my experience, it's usually to lecture women about how they shouldn't feel the way they feel about something. That kind of talk deserves a certain amount of scorn.

For instance, I don't know what, besides mansplaining, you would call the letter to the editor that showed up in my school's paper just before the end of the term, in which some guy argued that in the interest of fairness to trans people, we should simply do away with gendered restrooms altogether. Okay, there is a case to be made for this--but the main, uh, thrust of this guy's argument was that women were big sillies to feel unsafe sharing bathrooms with cis men. After all, only about 40 percent of SA is committed by strangers! Never mind that women who get catcalled and harassed on the street might prefer not to risk experiencing that in the bathroom--or that trans women don't feel safe sharing bathrooms with cis men either.
