Yeah, that's totally understandable. Some clowns can definitely be irritating with their antics, for sure.

I've never seen or read 'It', either, so yeah, maybe that does explain our particular attitude towards them :p. It does seem that story is to blame for a lot of people's fear of them.

I think it's also the way they (at least the traditional ones) often do all these things to make people laugh but never show any emotion themselves - I get that people can find that creepy, I guess. But yeah, 'It' was probably to blame for having a big part in creating the "evil killer clown" trope.

That and the kinda freaky-looking plastered grin some of them have-I can see where that might unnerve some people.

Didn't John Wayne Gacy pose as a clown at one point during his crime spree, as a means of luring some of his victims? A real life horrifying situation like that would certainly add to people's fears, too, for sure.

Yes, now that you mention it, I think he did. That's definitely another reason why clowns got that sketchy reputation.
(The way that clownshe often don't speak either is probably another creep factor.)
