I never read the book. I found the movie to be a load of self-indulgent wash trying too hard to be an epic Southern romance to be any good, and the ending just made the whole thing a waste of time.

Also, the White fucking Stripes.

They were an awful "garage" band that was big at the time. Jack White actually starred in the movie and a lot of the songs were written by him.
