Flip-flop question

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay seriously, is there a way to wear them without getting blisters? I feel like I'm doing something very wrong because I haven't worn a single pair in my life that hasn't caused me pain and I'm???? Why. I have really cute ones too, with a pink plastic bow on them but I wear them once and regret it forever. I have an itchy blister right between my toes now.

Woe.

Maybe get non-plastic ones?

Moleskin. You can get it at most drugstores in the foot care section. Cut pieces to fit and stick them to the parts of the shoe you can feel rubbing against your foot.

Generally all shoes have to be worn in. If that's not an option, put a bandaid over the place you develop blisters before you develop them and it'll usually prevent it from happening.

You can also buy moleskin for this purpose, but I find bandaids to be just as effective and cheaper.

Will they get worn in if I wear moleskin/bandaids over the spots? Because they ARE flip-flops so it would be very visible if I do that, idk if doing it forever and ever would be an option.

Unless they are the absolute cheapest sharpest plastic, it should be fine.

But even fairly hard plastic will soften a bit after enough wear. Usually about a week is enough to do it.

I'll give it a shot, ty! I never considered wearing in flip flops. It does make sense though...

This is the problem I have with sandals. Flip-flops work fine for me. But anything with a strap across the top, and I'll get sores where the strap is.

I have the exact opposite problem.

The plastic ones always give me blisters. The fabric or leather ones usually don't.

Have you ever tried memory foam flip-flops (e.g. Oofos)? Those might work better.

I hated flip-flops for years because I always got blistered when I borrowed them from friends. High quality, super cheap, didn't matter, they sucked/ I wore them, at most, for an hour or two at a time, and never several days in a row.

One year I got a free pair of really shitty plastic ones and decided, what the hell, let's try to make these work. It was awful for the first 3-4 days I wore them, but once the blisters healed, I stopped having problems altogether. The skin between my toes is just slightly thicker than it used to be, not quite a callus but hardy enough not to blister anymore.

My hope is that the other posters' suggestions are right and higher quality materials could make a difference for you! But if you keep having bad luck and still want to wear flip-flops, consider if you think powering through the pain is worth it.

Those plastic ones are horrible for causing blisters and foot irritation in general. Get a more expensive pair that uses cloth. They're way better.

Funny you post this today of all days because I just got a blister on the bottom of my foot from a pair of sandals. I bought several pairs of these years ago and I had one for 4-5 years before they started to fall apart and I'm slowly trying to break the new pair in and ugh, this blister is killing me.

It's frustrating for me because these are the same pair that I love to death except the old ones broke I wore that much. I bought them at the same time, why do you hate me feet?

So I hope your blister goes away soon!

I've had blisters in the past, I found the foam ones with the cloth straps more comfortable.
I spent a bit more a few years ago and got these plastic Ipanema brand ones that I've been wearing ever since with no issues.

It's been a few years since I wore flip-flops, but when I wore them a lot I'd always get blisters for the first week or so if I did a lot of walking in them. But after that they were always fine. I think it just takes a little while for your skin to toughen up right there, if you don't usually wear that kind of shoe.
