I find 4chan-style stuff way more frustrating than tumblr slang. Maybe because I have spent more time on 4chan so I associate it with stupidity more readily.

I rarely go on 4 Chan, but I do find myself irritated at the constant lowercase letters, the overuse of punctuation, and the general passive-aggressiveness of users.

"friendly reminder.......a warning about something pedantic????? with so ????? many ????? of these?????"

but then I cool off and keep scrolling.

that's actually generally 4chan users making fun of tumblr speech patterns. Especially things like turning everything into a question, or starting posts off with 'friendly reminder'.

"4chan speak" tends to be more concise and definitive, bordering on aggressive.

Tumblr-speak is obnoxious. I've never gone to 4chan (or had a reason to), so I couldn't compare them.

Tumblr. Mostly because people write like that outside of Tumblr. I'd rather have easy to read formatting that ranDOM caps, repeated letttteeeerrrsssssssss, literally alwAYS overreacting, and OMG XD WTF I AM SUCH TRASH!!!11!!!!111!!!!!

Both have their infuriating qualities, though people who unironically use more than a few 4chanisms in a single post are not to be taken seriously as functioning adults.

Tumblr. I can deal with obnoxious memes and bro-speech. But cutesy flower emoticons mixed with rising??? intonation/??? uwu passive aggressive shit??? is just so goddamn irritating.

Tumblr speak can actually be useful if you're talking to someone else who also understands it. 4chan speak is pretty much only useful as a dogwhistle.

This is so hard because I have such a knee-jerk reaction to tumblr speak and their "friendly reminder that you're fandoming wrong uwu".

4chan speak at least keeps to themselves like the angry little people inside their angry box. Also this one is really hard to bleed onto other sites because ">this thing" is mostly used to either quote or shitpost.

Also there's the fact that there's the demographic factor, where tumblr is full of teenagers while 4chan is early 20's.

Idk I'll go with tumblr because knee-jerk reaction aside their speech (and the general better-than-thou attitude that comes with it) tends to bleed onto other sites.

At least with 4chan, the shitposting is read as the douchey thing it is. They don't hide the fact that they can be/are assholes.

Tumblr speak with it's fake, sugary, passive aggressive ~"concern trolling"~ can get into your head and end up making you feel like shit just because you like a certain pairing.
