Favorite shows of the season

[personal profile] leisuretime 2016-05-30 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The standard Fall/Spring TV season is over, and I wonder what stood out to everbody as favorites? I stuck to the networks and ended up really pleased with Agents of SHIELD, Flash and Arrow.

They all had some very similar themes, but differentiated themselves enough to not feel really repetitive. (Read more about it in my 100th post here, or the three shows I couldn't keep up with -- one because it was really bad -- here.

Flash I really enjoyed, also Supergirl. Arrow I stayed watching but got sick of. Legends of Tomorrow was pretty stupid but I liked it, it was fun.

The Grinder was my favorite new show. I'm so sad it has been cancelled. It was so good.

He's such a great actor. And the show was so good. The law stuff was actually mostly correct. And the show was really funny.

I really liked it too. :( I actually had a dream about it the other day, I don't remember what it was about, but the characters were there.

The only sitcom live action show I watch is Blackish. It was pretty good. Cartoons are far more inconsistent so...

I pretty much only watched Jane the Virgin and Nashville this season. I really haven't been too excited by network television lately, mostly because they'll cancel shows just as I get in to them (Forever, Revolution, Selfie, Flashforward).

OMG! Someone else besides me that watched FlashForward!

YES! I watched it with another friend in grad school and I loved the concept. The first half was so good and it dragged the second half.

I know a lot of people (understandably) gave up on it, but this season of Gotham was a hoot. Everyone playing a villain was clearly having the time of their life while doing it. Like, I want a BD Wong and Tonya Pinkins prequel because they were hilarious and menacing together.

After Jerome, I kind of lost the will to watch Gotham, and by the time I was ready to get back into it, I was too far behind. Will def. catch up when it hits Netflix, though.

I love Gotham so much. It's so incredibly violent for a show that airs at 8. They've also made it so the villains aren't as isolated, like Fish seemed to be last season. And the actor who plays Bruce is amazing.

It has just the right level of crazy for me. I loved when Penguin blew Galavan up with a bazooka and then rock music played as he and Butch peace'd out.

"Bates Motel" had a fantastic season this year. Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore deserve all the Emmy nods imaginable, as does the show in general.

I don't watch much TV so this isn't really much of a choice for me but I really enjoyed Elementary and Shadowhunters this year.

I'm still working through Supergirl but I liked what I saw of that too.

I was really impressed by a couple of miniseries - The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and The Night Manager. Regular series-wise, though the series finale was a little disappointing, The Good Wife had a good last season.

I really liked The Family, and I think it was the cancellation I'm the most sad about. I know it got awful reviews (and ratings, hence the cancellation) but I actually really liked it. And given the cliffhanger ending, I'm really curious about what would've happened in Season 2.

There were some not so great episodes in the season, but overall I still love SVU even after so many seasons, and I really love the current cast.

I loved Galavant's second season even more than the first, and it sucks that it got canceled, although I think everyone knew it was going to happen.

I liked Limitless and would've been happy about another season but I liked the way it ended and that there was a sense of closure and it worked well as a series ending.

I thought The Grinder was fun but I wasn't super upset about it being canceled or anything (and Rob Lowe apparently being a total asshole in RL made even less upset).

There were two medical shows I really liked, Code Black and Chicago Med, and I'm happy they're both coming back next season.

Surprisingly, I really loved The People vs. OJ. I wasn't all that excited beforehand because the case wasn't one that really interested me, but I thought it was really well done and most of the actors were amazing.

Another mini-series-ish type thing I loved was Hap and Leonard. I ended up getting all the books because of it, and I'm seriously hoping they do more episodes of the TV show.

Those Who Can't was super weird and there were a few things that really bothered me about it, but overall I liked it.

Oh, and I know a bunch of people hate it, but I really liked Blindspot. It's definitely not a masterpiece by any means and there are so many stupid aspects, but I still found it really entertaining.

I watch way too much TV and there are probably several others I could name, but I'll stop there. Overall, it was a good season, and though a couple things I liked got canceled, there was nothing I was invested in to the point that it led to crying in the grocery store like 2012 so that's always good. :P

there is a higher power - I've been dying to find out if Code Black got renewed! So, thank you, anon, for saying that :D
