Enh, for me, it was actually hugely healing to differentiate affection or attachment from love (which I now define as an action).

I mean, folks can be EXTREMELY attached to me, and feel affectionate towards me, and still not love me. For me, being able to realize my family didn't love me, while extremely painful, also turned out to be one of the most liberating realizations of my life.
