Me too. I suspect some of the fuel on the fire are people who jumped in with the Movies and don't realize that it's just what Marvel does. This could be one of those Geico commercials. "If you're Marvel comics, you fuck with Captain America. It's what you do."

Maybe? I still feel like I'm missing a lot of context here, though. Like, there are old comics fans old enough to be my parents who are really upset about this too. (I've been hearing from them on LJ.)

I think part of it may be that they're claiming that IT'S NOT FAKE IT'S NOT BRAINWASHING IT'S TOTES REAL YO that is part of what annoys people.
I admit that while I'm not flipping over it, I'm not particularly pleased with this development myself, and wish they'd found a less offensive gimmick to garner interest.
