yeah. I like to assume the best of people most of the time, but her going, "mommy's here! I love you!" while her kid was with the gorilla made me think she was a damn idiot.

You and anon above you, what the hell was she supposed to say? What do you think a mother will say when she sees her child being abused and knows she can't do anything to really help them? Have you ever had your child be crying and afraid in a dangerous or painful situation you couldn't change? Your judgey comments are really digusting

Don't get me wrong, her not reacting would be worse. But saying something is still angering because it's like oh, that's what it takes to get you to care, huh? Better than not caring at all, but still, it's a lose-lose situation. By then, it's too late for her to be a better parent. I may be disgusting, but not as disgusting as her.

Were you there? No. Caring for a child is not equal to 100% surveillance all the time. Trust me, you will know that if you ever have kids. It' just not possible. That's why parents need and always have needed an attentive society that helps prevent accidents like this one. A zoo is a place where parents go and assume it's safe for their kids to explore within reasonable boundaries. This accident was preventable but not by the mother but the zoo. But seing as it was a new installment that left enough room they probably didn'T realize before. I don't see criminal neglect on either side but just a fucking accident, so why the hell would it be the mother's fault? And the mother be "disgusting"?
