The three steps that have helped me most are:

1) Read: Whatever you want to write, go find it and read it and learn how it's done. Whoever you want to write like, go find them and read them and learn how they do it.

2) Write: Just write. It can be self-indulgent Mary Sue fic that never sees the light of day. It can be drabbles on a kink meme. It can be moody introspection, or lighthearted silliness. Just write.

3) Save what you've written: One piece at a time, stash your writing so you'll find it months or years later after you've forgotten about it, and then, you'll read it as though it were brand new and unfamiliar. A piece can read completely differently when the only thing that's really changed is your perspective.
