*squints* I don't see how it backfired. They got a story about raptor butt sex NOMINATED FOR A HUGO. The super-serious, best of the best Hugo Awards which are supposed to be about the cream of the crop of science fiction and fantasy. Vox Day has stated publicly he wants to turn the Hugo Awards into a joke and burn it all down

I say he managed the joke part this year. I haven't heard about Tingle saying anything about the nomination (except to release 'Slammed in the Butt with My Hugo Nomination' or whatever it was), but even if he did, it doesn't matter. Vox Day still won simply by actually getting that kind of story nominated.

(And no, I don't like Vox Day. But spinning everything into a victory isn't seeing reality.)

He's having Zoe Quinn accept the award on his behalf, and bought the URL therabidpuppies.com to put his own content up instead.

Thanks for the info. :)

Sure, he meant the nomination for Tingle to be a joke, but do you think that VD intended for his own nominee (who has a bigger fan following than VD does) to mock the living shit out of him all over the internet? I seriously doubt it. The fact that you personally haven't heard Tingle say anything about the nomination doesn't mean it hasn't happened. It just means you missed it.

You could Google for more, but here's one:

"But spinning everything into a victory isn't seeing reality."

Which is pretty ironic, because this is exactly what VD does. The whole point of putting already popular works on their slate is so they can claim a victory for something that would've likely been nominated, anyway. They're doing this because they learned that nominating their own mediocre books didn't work last time.

Vox Day's own book was actually nominated ...

(Anonymous) 2016-06-01 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
And it won't win. Just like how the Puppies nominated a lot of their own books last year and most of them didn't win. Actually, did ANY of them win? John C. Wright sure took a spanking, and deservedly so.

And are you seriously suggesting that Raptor Butt Invasion is an already popular work that would have been nominated???

(Anonymous) 2016-06-01 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
No. But Tingle's book wasn't the only work on the Puppy slate, and if you look at their slate, you'll see plenty of popular stuff that would get votes with or without the Puppies' influence.
