The Graduation Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-01 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Since it's graduation season.

Anyone graduating, or graduated? Just want to reminisce about graduation? Want to rant about graduation? Talk about your favorite/least favorite graduation episodes? Go for it.

I graduated from college a few years ago. My biggest regret is leaving the party our professors threw early because nothing was happening... only to find out things got fun after I'd left. I was so upset.

The Buffy episode where they slay vampires at graduation was pretty epic. I always thought they would've made a great series finale. (And really could've been the series finale.)

Yes to that episode. I love it.

Graduated from law school a year ago. I think this was the only graduation I actually enjoyed. Both because it felt more important and because my high school and college graduations were miserable. It rained for both. For high school, we were stuck inside the really hot gym. We were all drenched with sweat in our robes. For the college graduation, they just kept it going even though it rained. We were all soaked.

It rained on all of my major graduations. Middle school they only got through the speeches before they decided to cancel it. High school we got to the field and then it DOWNPOURED (white gowns become see through when wet and our caps warped because they were just cardboard).

A friend spent time straightening her hair only for it to go all curly because of the rain.

College was just brief rain.

I'm graduating university a semester late so THAT MEANS all my friends graduated this semester. I am the only one who didn't and I feel so exceptionally terrible about it lol

I was the same way, but TBH I just had to take one class so I felt like I'd already graduated. I do sort of wish I'd been able to walk/celebrate with my friends in hindsight, though.

I, unfortunately, still have a few classes. It wasn't even that close for me :c

You don't have to! Education that happens at a productive pace > education that is arbitrarily crammed into a specific timeline.

Like, logically I know this, but I still feel bad. Not only will I no longer have classes with people I know in my major anymore, I feel inadequate cause I couldn't finish as fast as them

Please don't feel bad. I can understand wanting to graduate with your friends, but there's nothing wrong with graduating a semester late. You're still going to graduate. People put waaaay too much emphasis on doing things "on time" and it sucks.

I know - my family are some of the people who put the emphasis on doing stuff in time too - though granted that is partially for financial reasons. I definitely know I shouldn't feel so bad, but I still do.

I'm in the middle of writing my final paper at the moment. The deadline is in 13 or so hours and after that I'll be done with my BA! (Assuming I've passed everything, of course) Gosh, these three years have gone by so quickly!

I graduate in December w/ my masters. But a bunch of folks I love just graduated at various levels! It makes me proud and nostalgic. And my 5 year HS reunion is coming up?! Like in two weeks?! That's so weird

Are you planning on going to your reunion?

I didn't go to mine, mostly because I keep in touch with those I want to and I have facebook to stalk others.

Wow!

... It's my 5 year HS anniversary too this year, but I haven't got word of any thing. I wouldn't go, I don't live there anymore.

I will be out of high school for 10 years next year, and I don't even have a bachelor's degree.

It's kinda surreal to think it's been 13 years already since I graduated high school. The hell did the time go?

I mainly just remember that day being incredibly hot. And eating a shitton of cake at various graduation parties for a few days afterward.

I hated going to all my graduations. I just wanted my diploma. It was hot as hell during my high school graduation and all I could think about was the bee buzzing near me. My college graduation was loooooooong with really boring speeches and I tripped after getting my fake diploma.

Graduations were fine

Like, they were boring, but I feel like I've gotten pretty good at dealing with boredom in my life

I sort of miss that feeling when I just graduated, you know, when I thought the world was at my feet.

I graduated from college almost two years ago now (dang). I didn't go to commencement. I didn't care. My closest friends graduated more than a year before me, but even if I'd graduated with them I probably still wouldn't have walked - not worth the expense. I had and have very little emotional attachment to college - just an intense relief to be done with it.

I loved my high school commencement though. And it was more important for me to go to that because I actually liked/cared about high school.

Nobody gave a shit on the day I graduated uni. Usually our work group ate breakfast together and celebrated the people who handed in their stuff, but when it was my time the schedule got in the way, so I didn't get that.

My parents probably weren't sure whether it was really over or not, but we went to a restaurant seven months later. Just made me feel shitty and burnt out at the time, because I wasn't happy with my efforts.

I've graduated high school and gotten my associates, but I've never attended my graduation of mine.
