Surrealism is hard genre to get right, since (at least at its roots) it isn't just weird stuff, its supposed to be a reflection of the subconscious or something like that. (Or, as they said in my Modernist Art History class - surrealism was an artistic movement, based on the writings of Sigmund Freud, through the eyes of people who really didn't understand Freud.)
