In fact, I'm not in any anime/manga fandoms whatsoever. I specified Japanese because it's not often that you find a dumbass spouting out Russian/French/Spanish songs incorrectly- German is a little more common with Rammstein, but it's my opinion that if you don't know what you're singing about, you need to shut the fuck up.

If you're actually trying to learn the language and not sitting in the back of your Japanese class with a manga, a box of pocky and a case of unwarranted self-importance, then more power to you. If you're a weeaboo cunt who squeals out phrases that you don't even understand in ANY language to make yourself seem cuter and more 'cultured' because you know how to type Gackt/Camille/whatever into the youtube search bar, I hope you fucking die.

You know, not everyone who sings out J-pop songs and such does it to be cute or something. Who the freak does that. They do it because they like how the song blends the music, voice, whatever. It just sounds good to them so they want to sing. I don't know anyone who actually thinks they're cultured because they listen to J-pop. LOL HOW STUPID AN ASSUMPTION IS THAT. I can't believe you'd even bring a point like that up. So retarded.

"Who the freak does that"? Good god, you need to get out more. Obviously 'not everyone' uses it for that specific purpose, but 'everyone', if they don't know what the fuck they're talking about, sounds like a douche when they try to speak/sing/quote a language that they don't understand in the slightest. And yes, I can tell what you're going to probably want to say next: "WELL, MAYBE THEY LIKE THE SONG SO MUCH THAT THEY DON'T CARE BAWWWWWWW". +10 points for originality.

Good for them, but I'll still think that they're a huge faggot for pretending to understand things that they obviously don't. Let's not forget that in the secret, I was talking specifically about people I know IRL- although obviously, said rules still apply online.

Oh wow, if you're just going to predict this whole discussion, then why should I even reply!

Whatever the case, I still don't see how singing in a foreign language automatically makes you a stuck-up twat. Speaking is a different story altogether, but simply singing, for pleasure, I think is a little far. By that logic, people who only speak English and nothing else should listen to JUST English-speaking music, which is incredibly dumb to me. People can't help their tastes.

In the faggots' defense, I'd like to think some people actually look up the meaning to a song that's sung in a language they don't understand, but whatever.

Re: OP 55

I think that if they're going to sing something like that, they should either be avidly learning said language (and by 'avidly learning', I do NOT mean 'putting-on-a-subbed-episode-of-Naruto-while-their-ramen-cooks' / 'fapping-in-the-back-of-their-Japanese101-class' or already fluent.

I'm not against learning different languages- I'm against people singing/saying/quoting things that they obviously don't even begin to (or plan to in the near future) understand.

You give these people too much credit. Saying that is like saying 'I'd like to think that people who find wallets on the ground ALWAYS turn them in without checking to see how much money there is in there first and contemplating (if not actually doing) taking some of it out'.

First and last thing I'm going to put into this thread:

1) I sang Japanese songs while I was 12 and learning Japanese. I did it to learn Japanese as well as studying how to pronounce certain words and for fun.

2) I'm fluent in Japanese after studying for six years. I hear people around me trying to talk Japanese or sing it, or learning how to pronounce words. You might think of them as weeabos and sure, I lol at them too because they're not fluent, but at least give them the benefit of the doubt. Not everybody is a Wapanese.

Wow, anon. I guess I shouldn't be performing Carmina Burana because I don't speak Latin and neither did Carl Orff. Thanks for totally enlightening me! :D

I listen to some j-pop, but I don't sing along because I DON'T SPEAK THE FUCKING LANGUAGE.

Seriously, it's fine if you listen to it, but don't butcher languages kthx.

YES, THANK YOU.

That's what I'm saying. I do not support language rape.

...How does singing in a foreign language rape the language?

Re: OP 55

(Anonymous) 2008-03-26 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
Incredibly poor accents, elitist douchebaggery ('Well, -I- can sing in ______, look!'), ignorance to what one is actually singing about in 4 cases out of 5...

In the common case of weeaboo trying to be adorable versus song that they don't understand, the outcome is usually 'Weeaboo: *UNFUNFUNFUNFUNF*'.

Re: OP 55

[personal profile] sammywhatammy 2008-03-27 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
But not everybody is like that. Some people take the time to learn the correct words, to know the translations, some people just like the music. I don't understand why you're having a hard time believing that.
Basically, reading your argument, people have to "earn" the right to sing whatever the hell they want to sing. Who are you to judge that?

Re: OP 55

[identity profile] arwenchan.livejournal.com 2008-03-26 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well if it really bothers you when they're singing wrong, correct them! Do the same for the ones who sing English songs wrong, believe me, there are many of them!

And what if I'm not trying to learn the language, but I'm not sitting with a manga and pockys in the back of the classroom? And what if I don't squeal out random Japanese words?

What if I instead sing what I hear for myself?

Re: OP 55

(Anonymous) 2008-03-26 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Then get the fuck out, faggot. Stop mutilating languages and either learn it or enjoy it WITHOUT SINGING IT LIKE A HUGE DOUCHE.

I can correct people in French, I can correct people in English and even slightly in Russian but I'm not a japanophile faggot- it's not as if I can launch in and correct everyone because, while I know they're doing it wrong, I don't know WHERE they're doing it wrong. I could always make a dual weeaboo-fighting-team with my bilingual friend though, I suppose.

Actually, that's an awesome idea. Thanks! It'll be like a quasilingual Ghostbusters, humiliating idiots everywhere. Fuck yeah.
