Just butting in here, but I don't think it's necessarily this anonymous friend's fault. Speaking from experience, I got pulled into WoW hardcore and dropped pretty much off the face of the earth for the game, and pissed off a friend because of this obsession. Just because a friend is concerned and would rather the person focus a little less time on a game (whether it's WoW/Damned/whatever) and a little more on IRL stuff doesn't mean they're a bad friend or that they deserve to be pulled away from.

I don't believe [livejournal.com profile] damned itself should be blamed, but being hardcore obsessed about something to the point of giving it priority over term papers (the OP posted this in another comment) is a problem that should be addressed. The anonymous who posted the secret isn't a bad friend or a bad person if they're concerned about someone getting pulled in too much, in my opinion.

[lol rp journal, sorry]

First, I guess I just feel the need to defend [livejournal.com profile] damned 'cause I love it so much. XD

Also - maybe the OP should be blaming the friend who let her obsession with the game drag her away? It's just that blaming an entire group of people - a group of people that happens to include you and me - just seems ridiculous. We're adults here. It was the friend's choice to play in the game, not the game's fault for keeping the friend entertained to the point of fostering an obsession.

If they're concerned about their friend, they should stage an intervention. I have a close friend whose husband got really obsessed with WoW, so I kind of know how this anon feels, but instead of whining about the game in a secrets community she actually talked to him about how she was worried. And it worked. And now they spend more time together.

It's not always as easy as that, and I know that. But wanting an entire game to collapse just so the OP could have her friend back? Ruining the fun of a hundred different players? Immature on the OP's part. :/
