1. Bullshit

2. That is a fine reason why WoC should be included in media from OP's country.

I don't know why you think it's bullshit? In my elementary school there were like 3 black kids, and they were siblings, and two Asian girls (who were adopted). Sure, a lot of things changed since then, but there are still places that are really not that mixed at all.

I can agree that since video games are fiction anyway, you might add more diverse characters anyway, but places that are almost monoracial DO exist.

Uh, this is actually true many places, but it isn't a political statement, it's just that no POC have moved there yet.

1. I am not saying that the middle ages are as white as some people assume, but that doesn't mean there were POC everywhere. Also, if we are talking about PoC in Europe, especially historically applying American systems of Black/White/Asian is not going to get you very far. And if you think that there was a significant number black women in Polish culture at any point, I'll have to tell you that's bullshit.

2. Why?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-02 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
1) It is facts.

2) No, why would that be a reason in a historical game? You do know that not every country has the same kind of racial relations as the US? Or do you think any African media is obligated to feature at least one white, Asian, and Hispanic person?

Psssst: The Witcher is not a "historical" game, it is fantasy. It's not real.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-02 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
But it is based on a real culture. I don't expect an African fantasy movie filmed in Zimbabwe to have white/Asian/Hispanic people.

Just because it's based off a real culture doesn't mean it IS that culture. Avatar: The Last Airbender is based off of Asian cultures. That doesn't make the characters Asian. They're whatever they identify as (Air Bender, Fire Nation, etc.) because race as we know it doesn't exist in that world.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-03 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Strangely, that didn't stop people from complaining when white poeple were casted. In fact, there was a strong argument made for them not being white, precisely because the fictional culture was based on Asain cultures.

You can't have a cake and eat it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-03 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
...No, the argument was because the actual characters in the actual source material were very visibly not white. They took a cartoon where the vast majority of characters were something other than white, and cast everyone except for the villains as white.

It isn't based on Polish culture at all. It's a fantasy kitchen sink that takes myths from all over Europe and places them in a setting which is a hybrid of multiple European cities. "Polish authenticity" is an absolute bullshit argument and it needs to go away.

so many +1s!!!

(Anonymous) 2016-06-02 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice trolling. Even I know several towns with exactly zero black people and I don't live in Poland, which is traditionally pretty white.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Weeeell, I'm not American and when I was a kid in my elementary school there was only ONE black child form Morocco. It was so new teachers didn't even know he what "muslim" meant (we were lucky to have an awesome teacher who taugh us what islam was through this kid's experieces and colour books). Chinese kids began coming here only 10/15 years ago.

Here were I live people hated Romanian kids the most until recent events. Nobody really cares about PoC all that much. Here in Europe we hate our white neighbor because we're for the most part nice white people and we've got to hate someone for something.

(sorry i'm a bit drunk don't know if this makes sense)

Polish anon who ran away from Poland because Poland sucked.

My area is marvellously famous for antisemitism, xenophobia, all the possible isms (yeah, disabled gay bloke here - disabled people are better not seen while gay people get brick in face).

Anyway, in Warsaw you have lots of foreign students and business people, so indeed diversity there would happen. However, other places? Nope. My home town had 60k people and in the 90s we had ... one black dude. I remember one winter where my aunt went "BLACK DUDE WALKING!" and everyone (yep, including me) ran to the windows to stare. It was city centre. All other windows were full of people.

Then again, before WWI and II - Poland was moderately diverse. Especially this area of mine.

A while ago I visited a friend who lives in a small village in the Netherlands. I didn't see a single black person the entire time I was there.
