Your Favorite Aliens

(Anonymous) 2016-06-02 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your favorite fictional alien species in media? Which book/movie/video game/etc. handled aliens the best?

KROGAN

And in general I really enjoy the Mass Effect aliens and thought they were very well done

Hork-Bajir. I adore them. I like a lot of the Animorphs aliens.

Animorphs had some awesome aliens that really felt alien, especially the diversity of physical appearance. Also, the Skrit Na are my favorite depiction of gray aliens in any fiction, and probably always will be. Weird, nomadic tinkerers that do things for no discernible reason and creep out everyone else in the galaxy--and also happen to be one of the oldest space-faring races in the universe.

I always liked that they had so many weird species, even the ones we didn't see much of, like Visser Three's morphs. I wanted to know what sort of odd planets they came from.

The hork-bajir were cool because they looked so scary and dangerous, but were actually pretty nice and peaceful as long as they weren't being controlled by the yeerks.

My favorite are probably Hani, and the Chanur saga in general had the best aliens. Although I also really like some of the ones in Doctor Who. And Star Wars at its best has a glorious profusion of aliens.

Yes! Those were awesome aliens. I also really loved the Mri, and the Atevi.

I like the goofy martians from Mars Attacks.

I also love the prawns from District 9!

NAYRT

Oh I LOVE the prawns, completely blanked on them when I was typing my answer. I hope we get to see another movie with them (or something from that film universe) one day

Augh. I'm torn between Vulcans, Cybertronians, Saiyans, and the Xenomorphs, help.

Predators, hands down.

I don't know that I can say for certain what film/book/show/etc. handled aliens the best but I'll pick a couple personal favorite examples.

For funny purposes, I liked the Solomon family from "3rd Rock from the Sun". I liked the rules about their home planet they had to obey, and of course, their observations of life on Earth were entertaining.

For horror purposes, the aliens in the "Twilight Zone" episode "To Serve Man". 'Cause, well. Yeah. That ending. Also, I just liked the way those aliens looked :p.

Romulans are my favorites, followed by the Na'vi in theory (in practice not so much). As for what handles them best, probably Aliens or something idk. I watch very little with aliens in it.

Na'vi are so great. tbh I love that movie because it's beautiful and the setting is enchanting. the recycled plot and tropiness aren't nearly enough to make me hate it the way some people apparently do.

I was going to name Bruce Coville! :D I love his aliens, he was so good at child-friendly introductions to diversity and difference. (Also, you know, doing so with fart jokes and weird food.)

I got to meet him at a con a few years back, and I'm still so glad I did.

I really liked Niven's Pierson's Puppeteers. There was something very cool and alien about them, and you could see how people would find them unnerving, but not unnerving in the "standard" way, if that makes any sense.

Dammit, I love Quark and Garak from DS9. Trek aliens don't usually do much for me, but those two are A+

Species in general...Xenomorphs of course, and I REALLY enjoy Whitlatch's Star Wars wildlife artwork.

I'm going to go with an obscure TV show (earth 2, way back from the 2000s, I think) and their aliens were called Terrians. One of the very few times I've seen aliens handled where communication is actually a problem. No translators so that the aliens can talk to people, just one guy who has only a vague psychic idea of what they're trying to say. I liked seeing the humans actually have to constantly work at communicating with aliens.

My favorite are Jumba and Pleakley from Lilo and Stitch.

I'll give you three guesses as to what my favorite alien species is.

Others that I also like are Namekians, Cardassians, Tusken Raiders, and Mandalorians (if they count, they're more of a culture than a species.)
