That there's a limited number of plots and everything is just variations on these themes. Maybe in the most basic sense that's true, but it doesn't mean you can't come up with something original in your variation. Though it doesn't seem like many people are trying. I mean, I liked Captain America: Civil War, but a lot of the movies now are franchises or reboots.
