The pilot episode of Preacher aired last week and I saw people THAT NIGHT screaming, "There's plot holes already!! I don't understand anything that's happening!!1!"

Of course? You don't? It's... a... pilot??????? Do you expect the entire story to be spoon-fed to you in the very first episode??1?

It's really quite amazing. Like, a pilot is supposed to throw up some plot threads and leave on a bit of a open note to make people more interested in seeing more/the resolution of that plot. If you answer every single question in the pilot, you don't need a series anymore.

I wonder if binge watching is contributing to this or if it was always a thing.

I think there have always been people who just don't take in information well and end up missing important details, but binge watching probably doesn't help. People get used to having their questions answered or mysteries resolved relatively quickly, and it feels weird to have to wait a week.
