(Anonymous) 2016-06-03 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)If you want to base a fantasy world on a particular country or culture, it's supposed to evoke a particular feel or atmosphere, no? It would be absolutely grating to see a fantasy world clearly inspired by, let's say, feudal Japan inhabited by non-asian people, or Sezisoni's kingdom where everyone's white - of course, it's fantasy so you can say it's not supposed to evoke reality - but wouldn't that be missing the point of having that kind of setting in the first place? It'd be just as grating for a world so heavily inspired by medieval Poland to suddenly mimic USA's demographics.
