I'm just happy Peter Parker is:

A) in the Marvel universe
B) persisting in movie form in some way

That's it. That's all I care about.

Funny thing, I went and saw The Martian with my sister. When he showed up my sister was like, "I didn't know Childish Gambino could act!" I was like, "What are you talking about? That is Donald Glover. He is an actor and comedian."

And that was when we realized they were the same person and he is all three.

Yeah that took me a while to figure out, too.

First time I saw a Childish Gambino clip, I was like: "he reminds me of that actor" lol

Ngl I'd have loved to see him play an older Spidey but I am glad that they've cast an actual teenager to play a teenager this time around.

I'd also love to see him in the MCU in general, we've had Danny Pudi so why not him too? :3

Tom Holland is adorbs (though I wish there had been a bit less of him in CW)

?????
He had like... maybe 5 minutes of screentime in a film that was 2 and a half hours long. Relax

Speaking as someone who's only lukewarm about Spidey... his introduction scene seemed to go on forever. I got up to go to the bathroom midway through his conversation with Tony and when I came back they were somehow still in that bedroom talking. So it felt pretty long for me.

That ENTIRE scene - from Peter arriving home and seeing Tony Stark on his couch to the end of the bedroom scene - was 3 minutes and change.

Well...

I agree that Tom Holland is much closer to teenage (turning 20 two days ago) than Toby Maguire (27 in his first Spider-Man movie) and Andrew Garfield (29 in his first Spider-Man movie). But what they really need if they want a teenaged Spider-Man for a series of movies, is to write two or three screenplays, then cast an actual teenager (16-18), and film them back-to-back.

Eh. It is hard to film with actual minors.

Unless you're Franco Zeffirelli. He cast actual teens in his Romeo and Juliet, but that's over 49 years ago.

I imagine the laws around children working have changed in that time.

Am I missing something here? Never heard of Tom Holland, but whenever I try googling him I'm getting a white dude.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, Tom Holland is a white dude. Donald Glover (the actor in the secret) is a big Spider-Man fan and there's been something of a campaign to do a black Spider-Man movie (Miles Morales, the black (and Puerto Rican) Spider-Man in the comics was partially based on Donald Glover).

The actor in the secret is Don Glover, aka Childish Gambino.

Well Donald Glover did start that campaign several years ago, when they were doing Spider-Man movies with a college age Spidey. He was younger than Tobey or Andrew then, if I recall.

But as for an actual teen, no he can't pull that off and I'm glad they did cast someone who can convincingly pull of a high schooler. I DO wish he weren't white, but I think Holland did well with the role. It was nice to see after the mess that was Andrew Garfield.

Iiiii would have loved him as Spidey, tbh. I may never fully let it go, I feel like he's so perfect.

Yes, he's too old for a teen Peter Parker, but this is now the THIRD MOVIE SERIES IN A ROW that's starting out with him in high school. We all know the origin story (which is why the new MCU/Sony collab movie is skipping over all that) so I would have been very here for him as a college-aged Spidey.
