So, apparently, somebody threw a still-smouldering cigarette butt in with the shredded paper, thinking it had gone out. Then the huge security truck that collects the shredded paper arrived, and the woosh of air as it was dumped into the back with metric tons of other shredded paper re-lit the butt, and ~SUDDENLY~ there was a shredded paper inferno with an audible ~WOOMPH~. The fire department was there with a minute and now the parking lot is coated in foam.

Anything weird and oddly hilarious happening with you?

Uhhh.. the last time I went jogging it was at dusk and there were a bunch of people on the beach at my jogging route. There was also a harbour seal hanging out in the calm water only about a metre from the shore.

So, as I was jogging I turned to see this little seal head just start swimming alongside my jogging path keeping pace with me. Then a huge pair of seal eyes looked at me and sped up. I couldn't quite tell if it was an invitation to race or sealfriend thought I was trying to chase him/her, but that continued on for a good minute and a half until we came upon some people that were too close for sealfriend's comfort, and that was the end of the race.

Reminded me of playing tag with the sea lions in Ecuador lol.

Seals are funny. I remember being at the zoo and this kid kept rolling a plastic bottle across the floor in front of the glass window of the seal exhibit, and one of the seals kept swimming after it, even though it was obviously on the other side of the glass.

I've only seen wild seals while standing on a pier or in a building with a window looking out onto the ocean, so I've never seen one chase someone. It reminds me of when I used to chase squirrels as a kid, they could have just run up a tree but I think they liked being chased.

I think it has a lot to do with the natural play behaviour of seals and sea lions. They do a lot of chasing each other and such when they're in the water. Seems to extend to wanting to play with humans pretty naturally as well.

that's pretty awesome.

It was pretty cute, really. I would totally have a seal for a jogging buddy if that was an option.

Imagine an animated short about a jogger and their seal jogging buddy :D

...That is actually exactly what I was thinking when I made that comment. o_o

Went to the beach the other day and stepped on something sharp and pointy that cut my foot. When I looked down to see what it was, it was a fossil shark tooth! I took it to a paleontologist bud who told me it was from a species some 10 million years old. I was "bitten" by a 10 million year old shark! I'm going to have the tooth set in a ring or necklace, I think!

lol I hope that shark's last wish was to bite something and you unwittingly fulfilled it.

That is actually really fucking cool.

Nothing quite that random or bizarre. But I love the acrobatic squirrels we get when we fill our bird feeder. Today one climbed up the pole upside down and then hung off the end and tried to swing the bird feeder to get seeds to fall on the ground.

We have one of those feeders that is only for small birds, and anything that weighs too much will make it close up.

Also, sometimes you see deals being made between small birds and bigger birds or squirrels. The smaller birds will shake the thing so stuff spills and feeds everyone. Not sure what they get out of the arrangement, but it is cute to watch.

Birds probably attain cracked nuts from squirrel caches later in the year when it is cold and food is scarce.

Okay, that's part funny but part terrifying. M day was sort of unfunny and sucked.

Struck by lightning or transformer blowed up by bird?

It sparkled and then blew up. I wasn't close enough to see what happened, but it wasn't lightning.

haven't seen a transformer go because of a bird - have seen them go because of squirrels [he don't move no more]

That's nothing, I once saw a ball lightning chillin' its way around a transformer on a telephone pole for... almost five solid minutes, actually.

turns out my entire cell carrier has shat the bed with the lights on nationwide. I can't even access the website.

This is a few months old, but a bunch of enterprising crooks spent St. Patrick's day selling parking spaces in an empty lot they didn't own.

Oddly hilarious? I got some troll giving me shit about mentioning that ALL the dude cult leaders in my subculture are trans. No cis guys among them.

Apparently outing trans people is dangerous... even if they've been openly out for ten years and have kidnapped, drugged, and raped people.
