Hello friend! I just wanted to say:
- yay Animorphs secret!
- I don't think the fandom is on life support. It's still somewhat active on LJ and DA, and way more active on tumblr than a spoilerphobe like me is happy with.
- I agree the TV show was not very good, particularly in the technical aspects, but... I love it *waits for booing to subside* maybe because it was my introduction to Animorphs. I found out there were books of it years later (not from USA). So, at least some of us got int the books *because* of the show :)
- sadly, I don't think a TV show is possible. *dodges thrown tomatoes* Don't get me wrong, the only thing I want more than this is a Pirates of Dark Water movie series, but there are at least two reasons, if you discount the dark themes, why it's not viable.

First, special effects. Using real animals is out of the question half the time, and with the aliens, spaceships, Visser Three's morphs, etc, the budget would be way too high for a YA tv show, and HBO is not gonna do it.

(This could be fixed by making movies instead of a TV show, but that has the additional problem of condensing 60+ books into 3/4 storylines. Most of the plot would fall by the wayside.)

And second, the the thing would be fucking bloody. I realized this while reading #19 the other day; in it, a leopard bites a girl's leg. In the book, the author simply omits the mention of blood (even though she does say the wound is probably already infected). But there is no way that doesn't look fake as hell to do that scene in a visual medium and not show blood. And the characters fight as animals, with teeth and claws, ripping chunks off their enemies. In the books, most of the gore is skipped, but there is no way of doing that on screen. (Other than the Bloodless Carnage trope but that's fake af.)
