I see a lot of people saying that they prefer Romijn's performance and I just don't get why. Her version didn't do anything. She was basically Magneto's lackey.

For me at least, the fact that her role isn't so big, is acutally good? Like, I would have liked a movie where she had a bigger role or more of a character arc, but she was very badass and there was just enough there, that you could imagine there would be more underneath.

With Lawrence's Mystique there is just so much wrong, and there is not that part that is left to your imagination, you know. (BTW, I mostly blame the writing on that, or maybe the person in charge of the casting, I don't have problems with JLaw, I just don't really like her Mystique.)
