Slightly OT. It is interesting how demons don't seem to be around during her time. Of course, I've only watched the anime adaptations (original, final act, and movies), so maybe there's a reason in there that I missed.

I've always assumed that the encroachment of the modern world interfered with the demon world and sent them into hiding. I've read a lot of manga that portrays demons/yokai as being almost exclusively in rural areas where people have less of a chance to bother them. Also I seem to recall that there's a famous shrine somewhere in Japan where fox demons are supposed to live, so that's where I'd look for Shippo.

I figure all the more animalistic, dumber ones got killed off as people took over wild spaces, but that the more human ones are still around, if you know where to look. Or maybe they dig the modern world and are blending in and quietly eating people on the side.

My headcanon, anyway.
