Not really? I mean, I've had other friends whose parents took them to cons a lot as kids.

There's a big difference between a con all about the show/comics/movies you like and a con all about the kind of sex you want to have. The difference is like the difference between a family board game and a felony.

...you seriously think all furry cons are orgies all the time? For Chrissakes buddy. I mean, I'm sorry to disappoint your image of a bacchanalia, but the one said friend's spouse told me about, they carefully cover and sequester the adult stuff SO the kids there won't run across it. These are run at big hotels. They're not fucking sex parties.

I mean, I'd say you're trolling, but I'd hate to insult you, and I don't know which you'd rather, being mean-spirited or just being stupid.

The point is not that a furry con is an orgy but that any con that is *based* around a sexual fetish isn't appropriate for children regardless of whether or not the children are actually present for sexual acts. If I went to a BDSM con I wouldn't bring my children along, even if they just sat in the hotel room and played tiddlywinks.

Okay, I can at least understand your logic now. Though I still disagree, since furry isn't NECESSARILY about the sexual fetish. Some people just like the art, the costumery, the fandom. (Since said friend and spouse are not furries themselves, identity-wise, but go to the cons anyway.)

And also... I dunno. Might just be a disagreement thing, but as long as nobody is doing anything creepy, just sharing art and merch and maybe wearing costumes, it doesn't bother me.

Er, I'm not a furry and I've never actually met a furry firsthand for which being a furry was a sex thing. Like, I know they exist, but there's nothing intrinsic to liking stories with talking animals that means you want to have sex with them/people dressed like them, or a lot of kids' stories would get really disturbing really fast. Goodbye, Winnie the Pooh. Goodbye, Redwall.

brand new anon but i feel like we both know that's not a fair comparison

I mean it's possible that we've heard very different definitions of the word furry but in my experience the word refers pretty exclusively to people who are sexually interested in animals/animal roleplay. Like I think by any definition it's on some level a sexual term.

Did you learn the definition from TV cop shows?

lol

okay but pet play is not considered a subset of being a furry, and that is literally sexual animal roleplay. Lots of kinksters do it without being the least bit interested in furry art or fursuits or anything like that

Furry refers to anthropomorphized animals only, imo

...liking stories with talking animals is not furry. Liking a film like Zootopia even does not make you a furry.

Furry means you have a strong identity with anthropomorphized animals to the point where it's a part of your lifestyle. And yes, sexualizing that is definitely a huge part of that subculture, even if that doesn't represent most people.

^^^

which supports this point: the word refers pretty exclusively to people who are sexually interested in animals/animal role-play

No it doesn't?

I don't see how "lifestyle based around anthro animals, sometimes but usually not involving sexualisation" (key phrase: "even if that doesn't represent most people"; note "doesn't represent most") is equivalent to "always about sexualised animal roleplay" (key phrase: "exclusively to people who are sexually interested in animals/animal role-play"; note "exclusively").
I don't know how you managed to interpret an argument saying "sex is a subcategory of this thing" as support for "sex is the sole defining feature of this thing". :/

Plus the claim of "sexually interested in animals" (ie bestiality), when to the best of my knowledge it's the human-like/anthro aspect that most furries like.
