Not that I don't like the trope, but I wish it more often involved platonic love. If it's love for a much younger person/child I turn into goo, even though if I think about it too hard it's like, protectiveness for a person who is innocent and helpless is such a baseline of human decency I'm not sure why it's more emotionally powerful than the romantic treatment. Maybe just cause the latter makes me feel a tiny bit like, "Oh, you want to bone someone, how original." Maybe if every once in a while it was romantic love for someone who doesn't look like a model?
