Slightly OT, but I'm always interested in the way this story is grafted onto narratives that don't actually accommodate it in any way.

Like, I'm pretty sure this trope is the reason Reylo and Zutara are/were such massive ships, even though the stories themselves weren't remotely interested in the whole "guy falls in love with girl and becomes good again for her sake" deal.
