Ask them what? "Even though the sign says No Adults, can I be the exception?" they wouldn't have the sign up if they were willing to let adults use the section.

Huh. It's weird. It's almost like I know the kids in my life better than a stranger, and might enjoy going into a place with books and picking out books I'd know they'd enjoy us reading together.

Instead of standing 40 feet away from the book section and trying to order another human around from there to try and get a book for the kids.

...you ask them to grab a book for you. Perhaps even suggest a book to you.

And will they sit there for half an hour and read through the books to make sure they're appropriate and appealing for our story time? To my exact standards? I doubt it.

It's almost like there's a simpler way, as if I could go into the children's section and pick out books all on my own. Instead of making a librarian play personal shopper for me because they have an age-discriminating policy.
