That's pretty normal. There's a reason most big blockbusters follow that formula.

Haven't seen this film yet, but I feel you. I can get into a film (or any piece of media) that isn't absolutely groundbreaking or spectacular, and while I might not always be super invested in them, it's not so difficult for me to just enjoy a not-so-stellar piece of media.

...Granted, I sometimes still complain about the problems in said media, but it doesn't mean I didn't like them.

This is how I am with movies a lot of the time too, it doesn't always work for me tbf but frankly so long as I'm entertained and had fun I'm good.

That's pretty much how most people who aren't "connoisseurs" react to movies. If it's an enjoyable break from real life stresses and pain, it's a thumbs-up.

Movie critics, self-proclaimed or otherwise, often have different goalposts.

Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong at all.

Same.

Enjoy it while you can. Taste is a thing that develops, you might find yourself wanting something more one day.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, just because you might want more sometimes doesn't mean you can't necessarily still enjoy the simple things. I approach an "important message film" a lot differently than a "popcorn superhero" film, but I can still enjoy them both.

Or you might be in a mood for popcorn at one point, and "something more" another day, then go back to popcorn at point after that.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well yeah, but development doesn't necessarily mean narrowing of scope, it can also mean broadening it. I mean, you can start out with more 'refined' tastes that develop to be less rigid over time.

Having once been very particular about the type of media I invested time in (which coincided with being a young, over-earnest film-studies major), over the years I've definitely relaxed my standards... Now, 20+ years later, I'll kick back with a good brainless popcorn flick and enjoy the hell out if it.

I'm sometimes like this too. It can be refreshing when the characterization is even moderately good and when that's there I'm more forgiving of the rest.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty forgiving as long as it has this, and no things I really dislike in there. If it starts adding in stuff I hate then the overall quality of everything else better be enough to make up for it.

What movie is this?
