This is such a pet peeve of mine. I hate when people say that Lily and Ginny look alike. Literally the only thing they have in common is red hair. That's it. They even have different shades of red hair. Should I avoid dating girls with brown hair because that's what my mom has and apparently that's all it takes for a relationship to be creepy?

This whole thing is just so weird to me.

I always imagined Lily with more of a kind of auburn red, and Ginny more with that flaming red. I dunno if Lily was described that way in the books but, I always imagined her as such so all the "Lily and Ginny are so similar/Harry married a girl who looks like his mom ew" stuff is so weird.

That's how I see it too. Lily is always described as having dark red hair. Personally I found it refreshing to see a redheaded character whose hair is never once compared to fire. I don't know why but that gets really old for me.

If you were basically a clone of your father in appearance, and your mother had a very uncommon physical trait (brown hair is very common, red is most decidedly not) that your spouse shared, people might remark on it.

There's no "you should avoid it" but noting it as a weird coincidence isn't saying it's creepy. Like if you date someone with your sibling's name is can feel kind of weird, but it doesn't mean you secretly want to bang your sibling.

And while you might notice all the difference in nose shape or lip width between you and your brown-haired mother, outsiders aren't usually so obvservational. I have a lot of traits in common with my parent, but our coloring is so disparate people usually assume we're unrelated. No one has ever assumed they were my parent.
