Re: Well-intentioned social movements that annoy you

Bernie Sanders supporters. Single payer healthcare is something we need, free tuition to state colleges would massively benefit the country and the world. Campaign finance is a shit show and something needs to be done.

It's just a shame that the whole thing is being championed by somebody who does not care about anything beyond his own ego and is willing to burn the world down around himself just because his feelings got hurt by somebody challenging his gun control stance, and repeatedly lies to his supporters so that they falsely believe that the world is against them.

Found the person who started the Bernie bros thread. We get it you hate Bernie. Go away.

Also fuck you we need better healthcare systems because people are literally afraid of having medical emergencies right now because of the cost of healthcare.

Not that education isn't important, but so is fixing our healthcare system.

Believe it or not, but more than one person in the world dislikes Bernie.

Also, the post you're responding to literally says that I think we need better healthcare. It's the first thing I mentioned.

And my point is this: these policies have been so intrinsically tied into Bernie's cult of personality that his current attempts to piss away everything he's built in a temper tantrum can only harm those causes. He's proven by now that all he cares about is winning, that his ideals are as bankrupt as Trump's, and these things are too important to allow him to ruin because his feelings got hurt.

this is getting really tiresome

Yes, Bernie really is getting tiresome. Long after he's lost by, literally, every method of judging it, and he's been given a number of slots to control the direction of the Democratic Party, he's hanging on to taint his legacy with hypocrisy ("please help us overturn the will of the voters, superdelegates") and petty rivalries.

But tell us how you really feel.

Long after he's lost by, literally, every method of judging it

He hasn't lost until July. He probably will, I'm not holding out any real hope that he won't, but come on, get the facts right.

That Politico piece last night was shocking. I had no idea that Bernie was the one behind the more strange decisions the campaign made, not Jeff Weaver.

I'm AYRT, and that article made me so mad. I mean, on the one hand it does validate every dark, negative, but ultimately unsubstantiated feeling I've had about him, but on the other hand I don't want to believe it because, holy shit, can you believe someone like that came as close as he did to becoming president, and apparently no one knew? At least with Trump it was obvious.

How? If it's the one I'm thinking of, it doesn't even say anything bad about him. "Bernie said mean things about Clinton" pffft. He's been weak on Clinton; look at the way Trump treats his opponents.

"Bernie chose to initiate the debate against Trump!!!"

And this is a bad thing why? Trump backed out and looked cowardly. This wasn't a bad thing for Bernie, wasn't a bad thing for Clinton, and if anything, slightly weakened Trump, which is a good thing for Bernie and Clinton.

"Bernie is damaging the Democratic party!!!"

Bernie isn't a Democrat. He's an independent socialist. There is no real reason he should prop up the corrupt elements in the Democratic party.

"Bernie wants to win!!!"

Oh god, what a sin in a political candidate.

LMAO. What in the Politico piece was shocking? Did you think Bernie was a doddering old grandpa, with the campaign staff controlling everything? Jesus.

This is the article that says he had a full on melt down about someone questioning his stance on gun control, the guy who thinks he can debate Trump

By "corrupt elements," you mean people who called him names? Because that's absolutely ridiculous.

Or do you mean the closed primary system, his other "big enemy?" Closed primaries are there to prevent sabotage by rival parties, which is absolutely something that happens in open primaries. They also had their rules set years ago and all public record, and he's the one who chose to ignore registration deadlines. Funnily enough, it doesn't appear to be caucuses, which by their very nature exclude large portions of voters who can't take hours of their time to stand in a crowded room culminating in a vote by voice.

But, yeah, keep telling yourself that the system is corrupt, and that's totally worth destroying everything he worked for his whole life (well, other than dumping toxic waste close to Hispanic communities that are too poor to fight back, of course). I mean, it's not like there's one or more Supreme Court seats up for grabs.

I don't have a good opinion of Jeff Weaver, so I thought he was making the decisions, especially the more bizarre ones (e.g. saying Clinton was unqualified right before the primary in the state she had served in the Senate).

Bernie isn't a Democrat.

He is a Democrat, though? Has been for about a year so he could run for prez as a Dem.

Look, I'm sympathetic to Bernie's problem: he wanted to run to call attention to issues he considers very important and it would bring more media attention to run in a majority party. But the end of his campaign has been more than a little sad because he's railing against a process he was fully aware of before he ran and specifically chose. I want him to go out with some grace and dignity, and work hard on getting his causes into the party platform.

I'm just turned off by the lack of consistency in his base. When Bernie won, it was proof the system worked! When he lost then the system was rigged against him. Closed primaries are undemocratic, but not caucuses, we perform well in those. Superdelegates are the worst... but oh, we like them now, they don't vote until July, don't count us out yet!

Re: Well-intentioned social movements that annoy you

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It was this lack of consistency (and, thus, consistent principles) that first turned me off of him

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. The article discussed above is a little OTT in tone. I do think he went off message, and his people don't seem particularly politically savvy. The only thing that confirms for me is that he doesn't have what it takes to win and to lead, which was something I was always on the fence about before.
