I think you are right that she was stuck in the trio box. I think that JK didn't know how to integrate them into the last book with the trio and instead decided to let them do some stuff off screen which is sad because Neville, Ginny, and Luna were very fun characters imo and I think the parts that dragged in the final book wouldn't have as much if the three of them had been given more of a role.

I think that a challenge for many authors is to take a step back sometimes and go wait, so this is clearly what's more convenient for *me* the author, but is this really what the characters would be doing?
And if it makes sense that thing would happen otherwise, you gotta let it happen, and struggle it out with the plot. Let's say you want to have the Trio camping out with all the sad interpersonal drama, but it makes more sense to have everyone else there too, and suddenly there's less drama and more sane voices. That's when you rethink the plot.

I really loved Neville, Ginny, and Luna, and I agree with you. They would have lifted everything right up, imo.

I don't know, I hear writers say this but at the same time, it gets painfully obvious when the plot becomes less with the momentum and more with the contrivance-by-numbers-to-get-where-I-need-to-be, and characters are just there because it makes sense for them to be there, but you can tell the author would rather be writing about something else because they haven't put much thought into what those characters should logically be doing while there. (See most of the last two ASOIAF books) And I mean, DH was already over its quota with contrivance-by-numbers, but it was somewhat mitigated by the writing for the Trio's character dynamics.
