But, every time I've heard of this story it's been in the context of 'look at this terrible terrible writing what the fuck were they even thinking', so... I think it got as much outrage as could be reasonably expected, given the size of the readership and so forth?

The only time I've ever seen someone NOT hate the Magneto genocide story is the webcomic Comic Critics, which strawmanned the living hell out of Magneto fans. Pretty much everywhere else wondered what Grant Morrison was smoking this time.
