(Anonymous) 2016-06-10 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)It might have been compelling to see Aang forced to kill someone in immediate self-defense or to save others in immediate danger. But killing a defeated man would've gone completely against Aang's character, and frankly, be pretty appalling. Side of good, especially in a children's story, has to be merciful - it's not about whether or not he deserved to die, but about Aang being able to make the choice to be merciful.
