Jeez Tacitus, let it go okay.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, now that is grudge holding.

All criticisms of MZB aside, I never felt like she was trying to overly glorify her version of the Druidic religion. Even in the Mists of Avalon, it's clear that it's super flawed. Christianity isn't portrayed any better, granted, but the flaws of British paganism are pretty much central to the conflicts in both The Forest House and Mists of Avalon. In fact, I'd say her work has a theme of criticizing organized religion on both ends of the spectrum - while non-dogmatic, open-minded spirituality is portrayed very positively in both Christian and pagan characters, institutionalized religious structures are generally portrayed pretty negatively.

But in regards to your secret itself, MZB hardly knows anything about the actual pagan religion in the British Isles because no one knows much about the pagan religion of the British Isles. It was illiterate. Something I found funny was that MZB claimed to do all this research about it, but if she did any research at all she would've realized pretty quickly that we know almost nothing about the "druidic" religion. She did admit though that she filled in the gaps using modern Neo-pagan movements.

This.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh good. A MZB secret. Here come all the MRA's to tell us why she's so terrible.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
ok rad!fem

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
She's terrible because she sexually abused her daughter, radfem!anon.

Uh, she is terrible. And I've been accused of being a radical feminist before. Probably am. But rape is rape, and rape apology is rape apology. Doesn't matter who the person is, rape is anti-feminist. She's a horrible human being.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
obvious troll is obvious, don't exert yourself over this lol

[personal profile] lady_dragoon 2016-06-11 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I would hope even you might be sane enough to realize that committing sexual abuse is terrible no matter who you are, but it seems even that is misplaced.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Have to admit I'm surprised to see this coming from you.

How about people that don't like rape and pedophilia instead? Knowing what we know now, the MRA's would approve of her wholeheartedly. Especially how she was obedient to her husband's desires in supplying him fresh victims.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. From what I can tell, MZB would of way more likely sided with the MRA and RedPill garbage then the femanist movement imo.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
MRA=/=misogynist holy shit people.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to give you a 0/10 for total lack of subtlety, but some people fell for this, so... 3/10?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm cringing so hard at anyone giving this a serious response. stop feeding feed the troll, people, it needs a diet.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol I haven't read her books since like junior high school, and I really really wanted to be a priestess in her world

Retrospectively that would very much suck

Meh, I thought all the characters in that book were equally massive assholes and hypocrites, regardless of their religion or ethnicity. But I was glad when they all died in the end, so...

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess she wrote who she knew.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Someone in the recent Mist of Avalon secret posited that if she had to throw the whole rest of the cast under the bus to make Morgaine look good, then it was very bad writing, but in The Forest House all the characters were such horrible people I have no idea who we were supposed to root for, so... either she liked her characters to be assholes, or she just didn't realize how her fucked up vision of the world seeped into her work.

Er... but historians don't know very much about "Druidic religion" in that time period and "druids" as they exist today don't have any real connection (beyond the name) to ancient druidic religions. MZB's take is mostly her imagination.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
We know that they brewed magic potions that imbued great strength on the drinker which had an ingredient from the middle east, and another which needed cut with a golden sickle. Also it looked a lot like tea too.
