Rec me dwarven music

(Anonymous) 2016-06-11 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm putting together a playlist of music that sounds dwarven. Anyone got recs? (preferrably instrumental, but I am not picky)

Sadly I don't have anything specific right now, but for some reason my first thought was folk metal.

Folk metal sounds very fitting actually, I shall take a look down this path.

You might be interested in certain tracks by The Stanfields, a Canadian folk-punk band I really like. Example: https://youtu.be/Zzr8YZwfbtM

Two songs by Herdninga are very Dwarven to me. I actually first heard them on a Sauron in the forge fanmix. And their whole sounds is just perfect for the whole forge aesthetic.

Vargtimmen- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phJlr-hZOhw

Not instrumental, though.

These sounds awesome. Unfortunately I speak both Finnish and Swedish (a bit), which they are sung in, and it kinda ruins the dwarven mood, since they're very folk-like. But they'll find a place in my personal music collection, if not this playlist.

Thanks for sharing! :)

Check out Derek and Brandon Fiecther. Here's a 1 hour dwarf themed video of their music:

There's a track listing in the comments so you can skip to the next song at any point.

Two albums from David Arkenstone come to mind:

Return of the Guardians

The Celtic Book of Days

You're welcome! He's a new age artist who's pretty much a giant Tolkien fanboy (as if the last name isn't a clue!).

Well, these are awesome. And now I need to buy these even though I have no money.

I'm just warning you now, this guy's music is like crack-flavored potato chips.

I've heard his version of Misty Mountains, so I already knew he was good. But yes, clearly. Ugh. Maybe I'll just download the tracks from Youtube until I actually have money to buy them.

If you happen to have a Spotify account, his music is available for streaming on there.

No, I don't. And I have an Ipod classic because of the large storage space, and that's what I use for music most of the time.

The first thing I thought of was the opening theme from Vikings - If I Had A Heart, by Fever Ray.

For vocal music, a small Russian male chamber choir has about the most dwarvish sound I know:

They are called Akafist, directed by a guy named Andrei Milyutin. If you can find their Blow the Wind disc, "The Crag" and "In the Trackless Forest" are gorgeous.
