It doesn't to you, no. I know it, too. But I can promise you that to many people, the process is still a mystery, or they simply haven't given a lot of thought as to why X actor gets cast in something over Y actor, etc. etc. There's a lot about the movie industry in particular that's just plain weird to people who aren't in it and haven't read about it.

As I said before, authors get a lot of mail from people who aren't necessarily clued in about these things. They get blamed for the quality of their cover art (because people assume you have 100% control over that), the availability of their book in a specific bookstore in Hoboken, New Jersey (because people think authors control distribution as well) and all sorts of wacky things. After a while, you just give up assuming that people know the same stuff as you do, just because it seems obvious to you.

I know there are people like that who never heard those things. It's just not the sense I get from this particular person.

Sure. But when you're an author answering a question on your blog or a public message board, your response isn't just for that one person, it's for all the other people who are reading and might not know.
