I don't want to depress you, but IME it's a more common occurrence as I get older. Maybe check that you're not using a ton of soap that dries your skin out, try using gentler bodywashes/soap with cocoa butter, and keep a bottle of hand lotion in the bathroom for applying after you wasn your hands. And make sure you're keeping well hydrated even when you're not active or outdoors.
