Haha oh god, every time I look into A/B/O I run across a description of either Sam or Dean as a helpless omega and I just Can. Not. Even.

NAYRT

Honestly this is why I really enjoy ABO in mostly 'slice of life' type fandoms. It's pretty easy to keep it more..."authentic" I guess, that way? Like I don't find myself wincing so much at the characterization in SoL fandoms when ABO comes up.

...That being said, there are some ABO fics that are just really well written in fandoms where it doesn't naturally "mesh" with the canon as much. My favourite sorts of fics are the ones that play with expectations.

(I read one fic in the Free! fandom that had a bit of a throwaway comment about how Rin was an alpha who liked other alphas, and it was treated in the same way as being gay might be treated in 'the normal world' and I don't even like Sousuke/Rin which was what that fic was setting up but suddenly I just wanted to read about how an alpha/alpha relationship would work SO BAD. I also recently read a One Punch Man fic where Genos is an omega, and Saitama is a beta. I'm not big on reading about asexuality (sorry, I kind of hate when it shows up in my porn to be honest, but I feel bad and I know how little asexual people get represented, I'm just being greedy because I want porn with people who are totally into the sexytimes, it makes me uncomfortable reading about how one character is uncomfortable with sex...especially in OPM universe where Genos is so frequently written to be unsure about his OWN body, it kind of meshes in a weird way with asexuality and makes me squirm unpleasantly), but this was actually kind of interesting because it focused on the different dynamics instead of the usual alpha dominating/omega submitting thing (even if I wished it had actual seeeeexxxxx).

I'm also working on a fic where the "omega" character actually has some dormant alpha traits as well that change the dynamic between himself and his alpha.

ABO fic has become an exercise in how much I can avoid the tropes that make the ABO trend so popular. (The omega character with alpha traits in my fic tops his alpha sometimes, which is pretty much the antithesis of most ABO fic. :P There's literally a subset of ABO fic where the omegas have basically evolved to have penises that are too small to do anything with.)

Would you mind linking the One Punch Man fic, anon? It sounds right up my alley.

For me it's actually more of a stumbling block when I see Sam or Dean (or Jared or Jensen) portrayed as a rapist. That makes my brain start to throw up error messages like: divide by cucumber error, please reinstall universe and reboot
