Write it, anon!

And then link it here. I'd love to read it.

I could get behind Dean punching Sherlock. (Or anybody punching him really.)

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I just can't imagine Sherlock and Joan getting along with Dean at all. I agree that the common themes are interesting though.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I could see it being an interesting kind of not getting along, though?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe! I've been watching a lot of Elementary lately, so the first thing that I think of is how conscious they both are about where and how they spend their emotional energy. Getting unlikely people to interact is what fanfic is great for of course, but I'm not a fanfic writer.

LOL at your wish for Dean to punch Sherlock in the face. I get it, even though I am a fan, he's a total dick and definitely deserves it.

It's just...Last time I checked so was Dean? Just in a different way?

dicks

I kind of feel like Dean is an entertaining dick, and other than Sam (who he's a dick to because it's his sacred duty as a big brother) his dickishness is usually aimed at people who deserve it, while Sherlock is a dick to everyone because of his superiority complex. Sherlock's dickishness makes me uncomfortable because it almost always feels like punching down.

Not really? He doesn't go out of his way to be nasty to people, or belittle them, or call them out on not knowing something, unless what they're doing is putting someone/Sam in danger.

He's a bit of a dick to his brother, but then - that's how siblings are. And he can be a dick to his friends when he's in that 'end of the world' headspace, but then - who wouldn't be?

But we're talking about a man who said he was a teddy bear doctor to a little girl and meekly let Missouri Mosley boss him around (and helped her down the stairs without a second thought). So, you know...not too dickish.

Well, he's also capable of being pretty thoughtless and dismissive of other people's opinions and capabilities if they don't fall in line with what he thinks is important.

He's great with kids, or if someone generally trips his protective instincts rather than putting his back up for whatever reason, but he can absolutely be a dick, whether it's because he's annoyed or because he just doesn't think before speaking.

And i just said that? But you're allowed to be a dick if what you're doing is saving lives/the planet/the entire universe and people are being stupid.

He has never, to my knowledge, been a dick to *any* woman on the show who wasn't a demon or evil god/monster/whatever. Sometimes he gets snarky with 'em, sure, but never disrespectful or mean.

He has less patience with men, but like i said - he's 99 percent of the time a dick *only* when things are getting in the way of his mission.

nayrt

I find it pretty telling that it took being a demon for Dean to be a douche to women.

Me, too. He really is a respectful guy, when it comes to women. Unless they're, you know...trying to kill him. Or end the world. Or kill Sam. :)

Maybe, but Joan's life expectancy would drop to be measured in seconds, given the average lifespan of a non-white woman in Supernatural.
Joan deserves better.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
As long as she doesn't bang Sam, she'd probably be fine.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
DA

LMAO

When I read "Maybe, but Joan's life expectancy would drop to be measured in seconds" in the comment you're replying to, my first thought was "But why does she have to sleep with Sam?" :D

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
AFAIK Linda Tran is still kicking around? And I know Billie is doing just fine.

I mean, you can talk about the fact that there aren't any other non-white women in recurring roles, there's plenty of room for critique on that score. But if you're playing the numbers game, non-white women are actually doing better than non-white men, white women, and white men.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
Are you including one-off characters in this as well? Or just recurring characters? Because those are going to be two significantly different data sets.
