i run the store i work at and am in charge of hiring and all the administrative stuff. we do deliveries where i work and ive been short drivers the past few weeks. ive scheduled maybe 14 interviews and had 3 people max show up. one girl even called me to reschedule and didnt show up to either time. 2 of those that showed up flaked out after i did all their new hire paperwork which is really time consuming and shitty. one of them went to the trouble of updating her registration and insurance cards and then just stopped answering my calls; the other i had difficulty with her paperwork for a number of reasons and she was with me all the way and then she never showed up for her first day. havent heard from her since. that was on friday when i was already short drivers (i had ONE that was even in-state this weekend) so i was really counting on this new hire. im pretty new to the job so it's been incredibly stressful and has taken a tremendous toll on my mental health but w/e. maybe my work ethic is just crazy strong but all of this seems awfully bridge-burny to me. i really dont understand people

That's so fucking terrible - where are you finding them? Could your current employees maybe refer people?
I think it's more about basic respect than work ethic. But then I also wouldn't do this so what do I know. I've worked with people who just seemed to see jobs as way to scam the employer into giving them money and I guess they wouldn't think twice before lying and wasting someone's time.

they either apply in-store, through our company website, or through liveli which is the thingy our regional directors do that will automatically post on indeed and craigslist. which kinda explains a lot honestly. idk maybe i just have awful luck with the people who apply. i live in a college town that is unfortunately pretty subpar outside the university.

ive worked at the company for a year and a few months now but im like 2 months into the manager position and it's been kinda rough. i started during finals week and the last manager left me with basically no staff. im doing my best and upper management seems to recognise that but it's still less than ideal.

i know the last manager (my boss) hired a driver who had the bright idea of telling other employees that she only took the job for extra spring break money. so she was there like 2 weeks before spring break, and the week before break the manager found out and confronted her. that was the end of things for her but it just goes to show how blasé ppl are about job hopping. ive had at least 3 employees who would complain with me about folks who no-call no-show and then thats how they decided to quit. like cmon
