When my step-father got a pistol permit, he went through extensive background checks that included them contacting my mother separately and asking her if there was any reason why she would feel unsafe if he had a gun. But that was in NY, not FL. This is what happens when you turn gun rights (or civil rights, or women's rights, or wtf-ever) into state's rights issues.
